Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips Make Amazing Deal with Image Comics

By: Nicole D’Andria
the next five years, Ed Brubaker (Fatale, Batman) and Sean Phillips (Fatale,
) are going to be doing as they please over at Image Comics. Why?
Because this creative team have made a deal with Image that they will have
total control and ownership over any projects they will be doing for them over
the next five years.

Brubaker is ecstatic about the decision and says “This is amazing.
It’s like having an overall deal with a studio, except we get to greenlight our
own projects… Sean and I have been making comics together for fifteen years,
and in the early days before we built the passionate readership we have now, we
struggled to survive, so a deal like this is exactly what I was looking for.
I’ve already got more than enough ideas to fill those five years, and both Sean
and I are looking forward to experimenting and really pushing the
first series Brubaker and Phillips will be The
Fade Out
. Coming this in the summer of 2014 after Fatale concludes with issue 24, The
Fade Out
is a noir story that takes place in late 40s’ Hollywood and during
World War II. It focuses on the death of a rising starlet and is a spiritual
successor to Brubaker and Phillips Criminal
The Fade Out
will be an ongoing series published by Image Comics in the summer of 2014 but
several of Brubaker and Phillips projects are going to become films. Director
Kim Jee-Woon (A Bittersweet Life, I Saw The Devil) has signed up to direct
the “Coward” story arc in Criminal and
their other comic book series, Sleeper, is going to be produced by Ben Affleck
(Argo) and Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity) at Warner Bros.
