NYCC 2016: Marvel’s Spider-Man Swings Onto Disney XD!

During the Marvel Television Animation Panel at the 2016 New York Comic-Con it was announced that there will be a new animated Spider-Man series titled Marvel’s Spider-Man. The series will take the wall-crawler back to his early days, as a teenage superhero.

“We’ve been secretly nurturing ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ for years now, so we are thrilled to finally announce it. The simple title reflects a back-to-basics approach – the story of an ordinary teen, Peter Parker, who suddenly finds himself with strange new powers and overwhelming responsibility.”

– Cort Lane, Senior VP Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment

The debut of the new series also answers the question concerning the lack of an announcement on a fifth season of Ultimate Spider-Man during SDCC earlier this year. The show now titled Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister Six, will conclude its four-season run in January with the two-part finale Graduation Day, which finds Peter Parker battling Doctor Octopus and the Sinister Six to save New York City.

The panel closed out with an extended first look clip of the show, which focuses on Peter Parker’s debut as Spider-Man, just weeks after having been bitten by a radioactive spider. Peter Parker clad in a pre-Spider-Man costume ski-mask, hoodie and sweatpants as he attempts to take on a bunch of thieves stealing vibranium. Parker stumbles as he gets used to using his new powers and web-slinging tech as we experience the events with spurts of ‘spidey-sense time’ in which Parker’s thoughts narrate his thinking process as he struggles to decide his next move. In the end Parker triumphs — at least until he encounters the Vulture.

Philip Pignotti (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) will be supervising director of Marvel’s Spider-Man, with Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken) serving as story editor. Consulting producers are Dan Slott (Spider-Man: Big Time, The Superior Spider-Man), Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man).
