The Comic Frontline crew throughout the month of December discuss the best comic books of the year! This week they cover best Male & Female Character, Villain, Indie Title, and #1.
Best Male Character
5. Jason Todd (Batman: Three Jokers)
A story that could have easily just been about Batman was really a story about Jason Todd and how he continues to deal with his trauma.
4. Iron Man
Christopher Cantwell takes a deep look at the question “who is Iron Man” in his newest volume of the character – a character study that embraces the old and the new.
3. Deadshot (Suicide Squad)
Tom Taylor brings such growth to the character, making what happens to him at the end of the series even more devastating.
2. Casper (Seven Secrets)
I love his voice and the twist and turns already connected to his character.
1. Batman
From Batman: Three Jokers to his own flagship, Bruce Wayne has had a strong year with new villains and challenges introduced to the Gotham mythos.
4. Roundhouse (Teen Titans)
3. Batman: Jason Todd (Three Jokers)
2. Deadshot (Suicide Squad)
1. Owen Johnson (Fire Power)
4. Thor
3. Bruce Banner (Immortal Hulk)
2. Eddie Brock (Venom)
1. Owen Johnson (Fire Power)
Best Female Character
5. June Branch (Basketful of Heads)
I’m a sucker for “the final girl” trope and damn was June a fighter – she even chopped her own finger off for the sake of survival!
4. Daisy (Red Mother)
Daisy has gone through so much, and no matter how hard she tries she’s learning trauma isn’t something you can ignore.
3. Emma Frost (Marauders)
Emma returns to her White Queen mantle – this time on the side of the X-Men, but are the X-Men even the good guys anymore?
2. Kitty Pryde (Marauders)
This girl has been through hell and back, and now all she wants is REVENGE!
1. Harley Quinn (Batman, Suicide Squad)
Harley has shined in MULTIPLE titles this year – ranging from finding her heroism in Batman to staying in touch to her bad side in Suicide Squad.
Honorable Mention: Carol Danvers

This was a nice surprise/mystery of how a good guy like Blue Beetle became a villain…kind of.

He “killed” Kitty!!

The Joker had a huge year with 2 big event books, and neither were disappointments.

What a clever issue, and the premiere didn’t even feature the main character.
